About Laser Fibers
Holmium:YAG laser fibers (2100nm)
-These laser fibers are recommended for use with a Hol:YAG lithotriptor (Convergent or Lumenis lithotrites). They can be used for the management of urolithiasis, tumor or bladder polyp resection, urethral stricture resection, or for the endoscopic repair of ureteral ectopia. This laser has also been used to aid in nasopharyngeal stenosis ablation, stenosis resection and polyp resection in other parts of the body. - The 200 micron fiber is recommended for use in a flexible ureteroscope (3 french working channel) or small rigid cystoscope (1.9 mm). This size fiber can be used for upper tract (ureteral or kidney) interventions like stone or tissue ablation, cautery of renal lesions (idiopathic renal hematuria) or when the need for endoscope deflection and strong irrigation is required. The is the ideal laser fiber for the cystoscopic-guided laser ablation of ectopic ureters in male dogs. - The 365 micron fiber is most often used for the management of urethrocystoliths in dogs. This is a more sturdy fiber but is larger so allows for less flexibilty of a ureteroscope, diminished scope deflection, and less saline irrigation during the procedure. This fiber has been used for the laser ablation of ectopic ureters in female dogs. - The 550 micron fiber is best used for large female dogs with a large stone burden. To keep this fiber steady in the large working channel of the rigid cystoscope it is recommended to place the fiber through an open-ended 5 French straight catheter prior to insertion through the working channel of the cystoscope. In the larger scope this still allows for a reasonable amount of irrigation. This fiber is not recommended for flexible cystoscopes or ureteroscopes.
